Overview
The 6mm Creedmoor is the 6.5 Creedmoor necked down to .243, built from the start around long, high-BC match bullets. It gives up a little bullet weight and wind performance to the 6.5 but recoils noticeably less, which is why it has become the dominant chambering in PRS-style competition.
The lighter bullet and higher velocity come at the cost of barrel life - a hard-used 6mm Creedmoor barrel may need replacing in 2,000-2,500 rounds. For a match shooter chasing points that is an acceptable trade; for a hunter or occasional shooter the 6.5 Creedmoor is the easier ownership proposition.
Typical uses: PRS and NRL precision rifle competition, long-range steel, and medium varmint hunting.
